Art in the Park

2 workshop sessions, each 5 days:
Grades 2 - 4, July 7 - 11, 2008

Grades 5 - 8, July 21 - 25, 2008
1:00 AM - 4:00 PM noon daily
Tuition: $ 85, $75 members
Materials fee: $25, plus will need a T-shirt, old jeans, or old jeans jacket to decorate.
A fast-paced week of visual arts instruction with an emphasis on creativity and experimentation with a variety of
techniques. Make a hand built “treasure box” of clay, sculpted clay forms for a Japanese style wind chime, create
fanciful drawings and paintings, and decorate old t-shirts or jeans with the option to bead elements. The sky’s the
limit when we approach activities with playful exploration. Henna art, embossed velvet and artist trading cards will
be included for the older group. Both workshops will be taught by Jane Cartwright. Cartwright is a professional clay
and mural artist whose work is full of wit and whimsy regardless of the media. Activities and materials needed to
produce them will be tailored to the age level.
Drawing for Children ~ Ages 9 - 15

July 21—25 ~ DAILY from 10 am to 12 noon

Learning to see is the first step in learning to draw. The class focuses perspective and creating the element of
depth in drawings. Students will use a basic tool kit they will take home so they can continue to work after the class
is complete. The class will be taught by Kathy Holland. Kathy is a professional artist who teaches extensively
in the region.
Art and Artist Exploration - Ages 5 thru 8

July 14th - 18th ~ DAILY from 10am to 11:30 am
Tuition: $ 60, $ 50 members Material Fee: $ 10
Art and Artist Class for 5 to 8 year olds is a mini discovery, hands-on class, reviewing 5 well known artists.
The children will complete simple works in the styles of these artists, using the design, line, form, and colors
of those artists. No previous art experience is necessary. Please bring an art apron or shirt to protect clothing.
Class is limited in size, register early.
Activities have been selected to help build skills of participation,
self-esteem, and self-expression. Ms. Spooner is a retired early-childhood teacher with 30 years teaching experience.
She is a printmaker and water media artist who currently serves on the Art Center Board of Directors.
Printmaking - Making your own stamps and beyond ~ Ages 9 - 13

A wide range of stamp making to block printing activities to help you reproduce an image multiple times.
Design and assemble or cut your own stamps. Perfect for scrap booking, calendar making, greeting cards, fabric
decoration, mixed media, and all forms of creative expression. Fun for everyone.
