May 17 & 18, 2008 - Beginning Silversmithing
Instructor: George Kidd - Sat (9 am - 4pm) &

Basic techniques of silver-smithing. Fabrication basics including sawing, soldering, how to work harden, and finishing.
Students will make a southwest style ring for their beginning project. Intermediate level students who are interested
in working independently may also register if space is available.
May 17 & 18, 2008 - Multi-Media Figure Techniques
Instructor: John Quinn - 9 AM — 4 PM
Tuition: $175, $150 members (includes model fee)
Classical training for artists of all disciplines emphasizing techniques, form and structure. Work with a
variety of tools and materials - your choice. Scale, proportion, perspective, and the uses of each will be covered.
Discussion of composition and style throughout to create the most pleasing completed work.
May 31, 2008 - Beginning Precious Metal Clay
Instructor: Ruth Prince - 10 AM to 4 PM Tuition: $115, $100 members
An introduction to the exciting medium of silver clay. Pieces will be kiln or torch-fired and finished before the end
of class. Students will complete 1 piece each. Additional clay and tools may be purchased thru the instructor. Students
should bring any texturing tools, rubber stamps, etc. that they have and their imagination. The instructor will provide
clay for 1 piece and tools for the day. Space is very limited, call early to register.
June 7, 2008 - Concrete Sculpture for the Garden
Instructor: George Kidd & Pearlie Rivas - 9 am - 5pm - Tuition: $65, $50 members Material Fee: $15
Produce your own garden creations. Mold hyper-tufa pots for planting and sculpt concrete leaves for small birdfeeders
or garden ornaments. An introduction to carving concrete, we will cast a form in the morning to carve in the
afternoon. All supplies included in fee. Bring your own tools if desired.
June 28th, 2008 - Dichroic Glass for Jewelry
Instructor: Ruth Prince - 10 AM — 3 PM
Tuition: $ 65, $ 50 members Materials Fee: $ 25
Create dazzling dichroic fused glass for pendants, earrings, or other jewelry applications. Learn to cut glass and layer
to create your desired effect. Pieces will be fired by the instructor & returned to the Art Center for pickup.
Each student will make 3 or 4 pieces in the class.
June 28 & 29, 2008 - Raku Kiln Building
Instructor: Harry Hearne - 9 AM — 4 PM - Tuition: $375, $350 members
All parts included with the exception of fire brick to build a foundation and a propane tank to fuel the kiln. For the
tuition, students will receive all the materials, step by step instructions, and build their own raku kiln. The
workshop will end with the test firing of some kilns. A great experience that produces a lasting tool to benefit
your work!
July 19 & 20, 2008 - Perspective Drawing
Instructor: John Quinn - 9 am - 4pm
Tuition: $150, $125 members
Struggle with creating depth in your work and making shapes that appear to sit in their environment properly?
This class will teach you the basics of perspective and enable you to go from flat to three dimensional. An excellent
class for artists of all media and techniques..... Call early to reserve a seat.
!! NEW DATE !! JULY 26 & 27, 2008 - Bas-relief Sculptured Tiles Making
Instructor: Nancy Jacobsohn - 9 AM — 4 PM
Tuition: $195, $175 members Materials fee: $10 + materials list available for items students must bring
Bisque firing: $15 (available & optional).
Create bas-relief sculptural tiles utilizing the slab-roller for the base tiles & then adding sculpted elements onto the
surface. Students need to bring a series of images of the subject they wish to portray and will produce a series of tiles
during the workshop. In addition, students will learn thru demonstration to make molds of their tiles so they can
reproduce or replace tiles in the series.
August 9, 2008 - Printmaking Sampler with multiple instructors
Instructor: Multiple Artists ~ 9 AM - 4 PM
Tuition: $75, $60 members
Materials fee: $20
Experience four types of the printmaking process in one day. Students will see demonstrations in creating plates
for etching and pull a print from the press, cut a linoleum block print and print from it, set up a design for
collograph and print, and see silk screen demonstrated and print one. Find out if printmaking is right for you
while making four samples to take home. Class is limited in size, register earlier.
August 16 & 17, 2008 - Raku Glazes and Kiln Technique
Instructor: Steven Forbes-deSoule - 9 AM — 4 PM - Tuition: $225, $200 members
Demonstration of all phases of creation of raku work - throwing; discussion of surface types, glaze composition and mixing;
and lead students through a raku firing. Mr. Forbes will also demonstrate his new technique of melting stained glass and
glass rods to create his "halo/opal" glaze process. Hands-on participation of students. Using 3 to 5 of their bisqued
pieces, students will be led through the firing process during the second day. Discussion of glaze composition for desired
effects, prepartation of the glaze, application, and kiln techniques will be included.
August 23, 2008 - Professional Artist Development Series: The Business of Art
Instructor: Victoria Boone ~ 1 - 3:30 PM
Tuition: $60, $50 members
A primer for working with galleries including: finding galleries that will be most likely to represent you;
how to read a contract; how to negotiate a contract; copyright issues; royalties; pricing; sales invoices and
contracts; and letters of agreement. Other information will include hotlines for legal issues; the difference between
artist statements and bios; and City, County, and Statewide opportunities. “Open Show” entry will be available
from 12 - 1 PM for participants.
